“A Summit Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to HitFix that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will open nationwide on Nov. 18, 2011. It’s still officially unknown if “Dawn” will be broken up into one or, as rumored, two films. Stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are all expected to return.

Directed by Oscar-winner Bill Condon, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s popular series chronicles Bella’s most advanced initiation into the vampire world to date, but is also seen by many as the most difficult to adapt of all the best-selling novels. Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted the first two novels, would continue in that role for “Dawn.”

The third movie in the series, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” will debut in theaters on June 30 nationwide and in IMAX.”

BILL CONDON TO DIRECT SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT’S THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN

Los Angeles, CA April 28, 2010 – Summit Entertainment has confirmed that Academy Award® winner Bill Condon will direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg, and will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, and Stephenie Meyer will produce the project.

"Bringing Stephenie Meyer's BREAKING DAWN to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity,” said Erik Feig, President of Production and Acquisitions, for Summit Entertainment.

Added author Stephenie Meyer, "I'm so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he's going to be a great fit, and I'm excited to see what he does with the material."

Bill Condon som Breaking Dawn's regissör?

Hold on to your seats.  There might be a light at the end of the longest tunnel in history!  Not only has Bill Condon emerged as the leading man for the director of Breaking Dawn, it looks like we will possibly have two films shot back to back.

Bill Condon has emerged as the number one choice to direct the final two installments of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, I’m told. Summit Entertainment hasn’t signed him, but I’m told that after several strong meetings, they are negotiating. Condon was among a list of A-list directors approved by Summit and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer. That  list included Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Fernando Meirelles. Shooting will begin in the fall, and I heard the plan is to shoot two films back to back. That was just what my colleague Nikki Finkereported. She also wrote that Summit was looking for a big director and Dreamgirls andGods and Monstersdirector Condon certainly fits that bill. Presumably, Condon would do this as his next project, and push back the picture he had planned to direct.

The Twilight job came open when The Twilight Saga: New Moondirector Chris Weitz decided not to reprise, despite directing a film that grossed $707 million worldwide., almost doubling the Catherine Hardwicke-directed original’s $385 million worldwide gross. New Moon also broke Twilight’s opening weekend DVD sale record when it moved 4 million units to the 3.8 million of the original Twilight, which went on to become 2009’s top DVD title with 9.2 million sales. David Slade helmed the upcoming installment, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which Summit releases June 30. Hollywood hasn’t given Summit its due on theTwilightpictures. Like them or not, these pictures have been better than they had to be, given the ferocious fan base. They are exciting movies with a fresh contemporary feel. That Summit keeps pushing the envelope, where director quality is concerned, says a lot in how to keep franchises engaging for fans–something that studios now readying prequels, four-quels and reboots, would be smart to emulate.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Twilight Saga star and Hollywood heart-throb Robert Pattinson has confirmed that he is not going to appear in the Eclipse sequel, Breaking Dawn.
Pattinson’s next film, the latest in the Twilight Saga,Eclipse, is set to hit theaters June 30, 2010.
Although appearing as the “virtuous” Vampire Edward Cullen in the first three Twilight Saga films, Pattinson has stated that a heavy workload and scheduling conflicts have come between him and returning as Edward Cullen in the final Twilight episode, Breaking Dawn.
“I really loved playing Edward. I loved working with [Twilight co-star and onscreen love interest] Kristen [Stewart]” Pattinson reminisced. “I’ll miss being on set, the energy, and all of the amazing Twilight fans out there.”
Summit Entertainment Rep Stacy Williamson has come out and stated that, “While we were initially saddened by Rob’s decision, we feel the fans will ultimately be open to the idea. I mean, James Bond wasn’t always played by Sean Connery. It’s not a big deal.”
So far fan reaction is anything but mixed. When Arby’s employee and self-proclaimed “Twi-hard” Jessica Linfield, 17, heard of Robert’s decision, she was less than thrilled. “OH MY GAAHH! [sic] ROBERT IS EDWARD. HE WILL FOREVER BE EDWARD. NO ONE CAN REPLACE HIM!”
Seeing Jessica upset, co-worker and toy-train enthusiast Mark White, who has had feelings for Jessica for the past 3 months, attempted to console her saying, "Jessica, he clearly never cared about the fans. He left Twilight. He left you." Jessica turned to violence, striking Timothy across the face and exclaiming, “Get away from me, you freak! Stop trying to be as cool as a Vampire! You will never have my heart. You're nothing but an animal!”
Johnny Galecki. The affable geek from CBS’s hit show The Big Bang Theory. Many at Summit believe he has the ‘brooding look’ that really makes Edward who he is. As of now, his schedule appears to be fairly open. Also, initial reports state that his chemistry with Kristen Stewart (who is believed to remain playing Bella) is superb. Johnny's height, 5'5", may be an issue if he is to play Edward Cullen, who Robert Pattinson portrayed at 6'1". If Johnny is cast, he may wear some sort of lifts, or Kristen Stewart may simply act on her knees.
Michael Welch. Although he already had a role in Twilight & New Moon, Michael Welch has made Summit's top four to replace Robert Pattinson. When asked about this, Rep Williamson said, "Michael is a brilliant actor. He has great range.  His little tuft with Jacob in New Moon could easily progress into a far more epic clash if he is to play Edward.  Obviously we would have to recast Mike, but that's something we'd be willing to do." Initial reports suggest that if Welch is cast as the new Edward, the character Mike may be left out of Breaking Dawn entirely.
Justin Long. While many recognize him from the "Mac commercials," Justin has also appeared in movies. Many feel as if his struggles alongside "PC" parallel the "battle" for Bella between Edward and Jacob. Justin's ability to completely shut down "PC" in the commercials with a simple sarcastic comment is the top reason he is being considered for Edward in Breaking Dawn. Obviously, whoever plays Edward must be able to "shut down" Jacob in Breaking Dawn through any means necessary, sarcasm included.

Daniel Radcliffe. Daniel is just finishing up filming some other movies, so he's free to do pretty much whatever at this point. He has experience playing a character that is "magical" and also has an English accent that he can most likely convert to an American one. His face is fairly recognizable, but not to the point where people don't still confuse him with Elijah Wood. One downside to Daniel playing Edward is the fact that he is contractually obligated to wear large, black-rimmed glasses in every film he appears in. Summit believes, however, the glasses could add a new layer to Edward's character.

MKnightAt first the list included Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, and Bill Condon discovered by Hollywood insider Nikkie Finke who writes for Deadline Hollywood. Then the name Stephen Daldry surfaced discovered by the LA Times. Right after that MTV (there seems to be a pattern here, you’ll see in a minute) asked The Runaways director, Floria Sigismondi, if she were interested and she gave a polite and non-committal answer.

Now enter M. Night Shyamalan, director of the upcoming The Last Airbender that stars Jackson Rathbone. MTV put the question to him, and to our surprise M. Knight (can we call him just Knight?) was a apparently fan of the first movie…who knew?

“”I would’ve loved to be– I love the series, and Catherine [Hardwicke's] movie, it was one of my favorite movies of that year,” he said. “Really, I thought tonally, it was a perfect movie. I called her up after I saw ‘Twilight’ and was like ‘That was amazing.’ So I’m a big fan.”

Read the rest at MTV.

So, what do you think of the latest person to express interest in the project.

EXCLUSIVE: Add this name to the list of high-end auteurs who are being considered for the director’s chair on ”Breaking Dawn”: Stephen Daldry.

Yep, that Stephen Daldry, the man who directed such Oscar fare as ”Billy Elliot,” ”The Reader” and ”The Hours.”

Daldry joins a list that includes Sofia Coppola, Bill Condon and Gus Van Sant, all of whom have been approached about taking on the fourth film in the ”Twilight” franchise. Like those three, there are not yet indications Daldry would actually take the gig, but the fact that Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the films, has reached out to him suggests where its intentions lie for the fourth film.

By this point nothing should surprise us about the names Summit is considering. (Well, James Cameron would surprise us. But he’s pretty much the only one.) The fourth book contains more complicated material as the story opens up (warning: spoiler alert), with part of the novel written from werewolf Jacob’s perspective and Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan carrying a child.

Having already gone indie with Catherine Hardwicke, polished/commercial with Chris Weitz and genre auteur with David Slade for the franchise’s first three movies, Summit clearly wants a high-end prestige filmmaker to handle the fourth picture.

Still, even by those standards, Daldry stands out. He’s been nominated for three Oscars, more than any of the other directors on the short list. In fact, Daldry is the rare filmmaker who’s been nominated for a best directing Oscar for every feature he’s made.

Those credentials make taking on a global teen phenomenon seem unlikely, though there are reasons to think it could work. The director is well-versed in depicting forbidden love (a ”Twilight” staple) with ”The Reader” and ”The Hours.” And he’s adept at themes of family alienation, also a franchise fixture, which ran under ”Billy Elliot.” Also, like most of the others, Daldry doesn’t yet have a new film.

The fourth ”Twilight” movie — which will likely take only a piece of ”Breaking Dawn” as the film is split into two — will in all likelihood be shot in the fall. That gives Summit a little more time to comb through high-end directors. Academy Award winners, take note: Vampires and werewolves are coming for you.

A new name entered the potential directors pool for "Breaking Dawn" yesterday: Stephen Daldry. He previously directed only three films -- "The Reader," "The Hours" and "Billy Elliott" -- but he received Academy Award nominations for all three of them. Daldry joins a group of three previously named talents who Summit is considering to helm the final installment in the "Twilight" series.

Last week, the news emerged that the studio had Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Bill Condon on their short list of potential helmers. These are four serious names; Summit clearly wants to bring out the biggest guns they can in capping off the high school romance-meets-vampires saga. They also want to serve the fans, since you're the ones who made this series such a big deal. And we're here to help. Tell us which of the four directors we know to be in the running you'd most like to see get the gig. I can't promise you that Summit will listen, but I can't promise they won't either. Let's just quickly recap the potential directors one more time before we get to the poll.

Sofia Coppola: The "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette" director knows her way around nuanced female roles, and Kristen Stewart's Bella is definitely that. She also knows how to make challenging relationships compelling for film audiences; "Breaking Dawn" also has a lot of that.

Gus Van Sant: Van Sant is admittedly an odd choice. He's had mainstream success with the likes of "Good Will Hunting" and "Finding Forrester," but he's known best for his indie/arthouse work. "Twilight" is many things, and it does indeed have its roots as an indie, but "arthouse" is not a direction I can see Summit wanting it to go in for the final chapter (or chapters, if it is broken into two movies). That said, star Robert Pattinson is keen on Van Sant being the guy, and the directorhas proven himself capable of blockbuster success.

Bill Condon: The random nature of Bill Condon's resume is exactly what makes him a good fit for "Breaking Dawn." From the "Candyman" sequel to "Kinsey" to "Dreamgirls," you never know what he's going to do next. He's directed a supernatural, hook-wielding psycho-killer, a sex-crazed scientist and an up-and-coming soul singer... a teenage romance involving vampires, werewolves and a violent, bloody birth feels like the culmination of everything he's ever done!

So now you know the players. Which one do you think would be best?

BD NYTT!

Yes, it’s still early days, but Summit is trying to up its pedigree for its big-screen adaptation of the final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week. Until then we can just wonder how these three very diverse directors will approach Bella’s controversial birthing scene.

MICHAEL SHEEIN I BREAKING DAWN

Adding the list of actors who have expressed an interest in returning for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is Michael Sheen, who portrayed “Aro” in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

This weekend, Sheen’s Alice In Wonderland debuts in theaters, and to promote the film he did an interview with the Toronto Sun about his increasing involvement in young audience-friendly films.

BREAKING DAWN I 3D?

ook, we get it. Everyone wants to see Taylor Lautner’s precious abs up-close and in their face, but that doesn’t mean they should put the final installment in of Twilight in 3-D!
Should they?
Sources are suggesting that while Summit Entertainment has yet to make a decision on whether Breaking Dawn will be one film or two (and seriously, you guys have had more than enough time to make that decision), another topic on the table for the execs is if the flick should be made in 3D. The technology has worked well for other blockbusters like Transformers and Avatar, so why shouldn’t it do well with Twilight?
One word: OVERKILL!
Sure, there is more money to be made by banking on a the trend, but does anyone really need to see Kristen Stewart biting her lip that close to their retinas?! Isn’t bad enough that Taylor and Robert Pattinson have to do it!
But here is some good news for your Twilighters: by the end of the month, all your questions should be answered! Sources say that Summit has till the end of February to make all the decisions regarding Breaking Dawn if they have any chance of getting production underway before R-Patz starts to get wrinkles.
So by March you should know if they are making four Twilight movies or five, if it will be available in 3D, and if you can honestly say it was worth waiting all this time for the news.
But back to the point: Do U think that Breaking Dawn should be in 3D?
